The mystery behind Google rankings

There are many claims on the internet these days where companies and individuals guarantee you a number one spot on major search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. The mystery question here is “IS IT POSSIBLE?”

The answer can be ‘Yes’ and ‘No’. To be more precise we need to understand how these major search engines come up with their search results for specific keywords. To solve this mystery of Google rankings we first need to understand how Google picks up relevant search results for their respective keywords.

According to Google, they traverse the World Wide Web in real time using crawlers or ‘Googlebots’ and index a list of all the words and where they are located on the respective web page, they also index information about links from those pages and so on.

Relevance
Using Google’s key innovative PageRank technology, Google determines the “importance” of a webpage by looking at what other pages link to it, as well as other data. Today Google uses more than 200 signals, including PageRank, to order websites, and we update these algorithms on a weekly basis.

Comprehensiveness
Google indexes billions and billions of webpages (roughly 100 million gigabytes). Google’s comprehensive Universal Search, integrates images, videos, news, books and more into main search results.

Freshness
Google is continually crawling the web ensuring that they can find the latest news, blogs and status updates minutes or even seconds after they’re posted.

Speed
Google’s average query response time is roughly one-fourth of a second. Google technologies like autocomplete and Google Instant, will help you find the search terms and results you’re looking for before you’re even finished typing.

We conclude from the information we have gone through so far that we cannot manipulate search engine rankings. We need to follow standard and ethical guidelines to make sure that Google and other search engines rank our web pages appropriately. Google and all other search engines do not encourage Cloaking, Link Schemes, Automated programs that submit your website automatically to numerous search engines, hidden text or hidden links and so on.

To ensure that your website is fairly listed on all search engines, make sure you design your website that is more user focused. Provide accurate information on your website. Use tools provided by search engines to improve your website.
